Match Summary
Brighton Rescue Dramatic Point Against West Ham
Brighton pulled off a last-gasp rescue in stoppage time as Georginio Rutter popped up with a last roll of the dice goal, grabbing a 1-1 draw against West Ham on the South Coast.
For a long while ,it looked like Jarrod Bowen’s bonkers free-style finish in the second half would finally give the Hammers a much-needed away win over their old nemesis Brighton.
Bowen broke the deadlock around the 60 minute mark with a finish that was nothing short of crazy.
He managed to slide in at the perfect moment & snaffle the ball from Ferdi Kadioglu, & with a single smooth action he was able to find the bottom corner past Bart Verbruggen.
Before West Ham finally got on the board, Brighton had been pretty much in control, creating a number of decent chances.
Maxim De Cuyper almost managed to get Alphonse Areola caught out at his near post and Diego Gómez had a headed attempt in the general direction of goal that sailed wide.
At the other end, whenever Lucas Paquetá came on the pitch , he brought a bit of spark with him & was instrumental in setting up Crysencio Summerville who really should have done better with his chance before the break.
The second half saw plenty of drama – after all that Verbruggen made a mind-boggling double save to deny Bowen and then Summerville.
West Ham did eventually get the breakthrough they had been searching for , only for Brighton to almost immediately hit back when Rutter’s cross cannoned off the bar.
For a while it looked like their pressure would pay off – but then Rutter pounced on a rebound & just as the Brighton bench were about to lose the run of themselves the ball went in.
And despite VAR giving the goal a good hard look ,the officials were satisfied that it should stand. West Ham nearly nicked it at the death, but Mavropanos headed just wide of the post.
